There’s a lot of talk about pizza in NYC, so much so that it can be overwhelming. Let’s narrow it down a bit.
Here’s my guide to finding the best Neapolitan-style pizza in the Greenpoint & Williamsburg area:
Paulie Gee’s
60 Greenpoint Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11222
As a Greenpoint resident, naturally, Paulie Gee’s is number one on my list! But even if I wasn’t, I can say in full confidence that Paulie Gee’s is great. It’s a strong rival to Roberta’s in Bushwick (I still can’t decide which one I prefer, but I’m leaning towards Paulie Gee’s). The pizza is delicious and there’s a ton of variety if that’s what you’re looking for, and Paulie walking by to say good evening is a nice little touch. The restaurant itself is a warm and cozy spot with dim lighting and a rustic feel — perfect for a date night or a casual meal with friends.
Warning, however, there will be a wait, and you’re not able to take your pizza outside. Nevertheless, my personal favorite is the Hellboy, which is made with hot honey and fresh soppressata. It’s worth the wait!
Fornino
291 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11249
There’s one in Greenpoint, and another in Williamsburg. Choose the one in Williamsburg if you want a restaurant that’s a bit more spacious, but they both taste the same. Although neither is as good as Paulie Gee’s, and both seem to lack that authentic charm, the pizza is fairly good. Most importantly, you won’t be stuck with a long wait!
The Shelter
80 North 7th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211
This Argentinian-owned restaurant isn’t only known for its delicious empanadas – The Shelter also serves some pretty decent pizza. A lot of the employees are Italian, after all. My advice: head here on a cold night, sit back and relax by the fire, and buon appetito! The atmosphere couldn’t be better.
Forcella
485 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211
I’ve only ever ordered in from here, but it’s tasty. Forcella is perfect for those evenings when all you want is a simple, traditional, Italian margherita without the fuss. And if you’re actually in the mood to leave your apartment, keep in mind that this pizzeria is BYOB! Score.
Motorino
139 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211
This isn’t my favorite in comparison to the others, but it deserves mentioning, thanks to an awesome lunch special. For $12 on Monday through Friday, you get a fresh salad along with your pizza. Not bad if you ask me, and the interior décor is pretty cute.

Unfortunately, their unlimited pizza deal no longer applies, but Kestè remains a reliable option. Better yet, you no longer have to head to Manhattan to try it!
